Getting Rid of Stuff: Board Game Cleanup #1

For a while now, I’ve been thinking about all the extra stuff that I have laying around my home and toying with the idea of liquidating the random collections of things we don’t use. One such collection is board games. For the past eight years or so, my wife and I have enjoyed board gaming as a fun pastime that turned into a full-fledged hobby and collecting sport but eventually smoldered into a fun pastime again.

Bear's Beans Promotional Video

Over the last few months, my brother took an online course on video production and his project was a promotional about my coffee roasting. We came up with the story of “Bear’s Beans”, which is destined to be the branding of my coffee operation, and he filmed around our home on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago.

The Perfect (Modern) City

This morning I just finished a two-part podcast episode from 99% Invisible about the Bijlmermeer, a modern architectural and city planning experiment. I really enjoyed listening to the explanation of the modernist ideas behind the building project, and the story of how the Bijlmer was built and eventually inhabited was especially fascinating. If you are interested in architecture, or want to listen to an interesting story, this is definitely worth a listen1.

Worship and Emotion

I was reading through my Commonplace Book in Day One this evening and ran across this quote from a Desiring God article titled, Should Non-Christians Lead Worship? Although there’s much more to the article than this single snippet, there’s plenty to ponder right here:

Worship is a believing heart’s response to the work of the Holy Spirit, not an emotional response to the quality of the music.

This has gotten me thinking primarily about how I worship God, and also about a need to grow more in sensitivity to God’s Spirit and an openness to His work in my heart and life.
