The Coffee Hipster Subculture
The other evening, I really enjoyed reading through the “Coffee vs. Tea” article in the latest issue of Standart magazine. At the conclusion of the article, the author (Mike Riley) essentially states that coffee is the winner, providing the following evidence:
The Specialty Coffee Association has been highly effective in promoting specialty coffee and running world-acclaimed competitions that have been so powerful that they have created a subculture of young hipsters - a world of beards, plaid shirts, and tattoos depicting coffee cherries and portafilters. But where are the tea leaf and teapot tattoos?
I got a good laugh out of that quote. Obviously, there are no tattoos on my radar, but I’ve often been accused of the hipster title. Perhaps I should scale back on the plaid these days, especially as the weather is getting warmer.
