Sibling Kindness

After breakfast this morning, my oldest son noticed that his younger sister wasn’t feeling well. She recently had the stomach flu, so she was resting on the couch and sipping ginger ale until she felt better. Anyways, my son came to me and asked whether he could go to our greeting card stash and pick out a special card for his sister. I showed him a creative alternative, and soon he was writing his own “get well” card at the kitchen table.

The front of the card, complete with pet-themed art!

I thought the result was super creative and it definitely made his sister smile. It’s such a great thing when children learn to be thoughful in these small ways. Unlike busy adults, kids are quick to take an idea like this and run with it, regardless of the time of day or what’s going on. I’m motivated by this example to choose more kind, thoughtful actions towards others, especially my wife and kids. Gestures like a kind word or a short note of encouragement require very little and have a huge impact.

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience
